Scotland’s Classic Links Golf – East meets West

Make it a trip of a lifetime and experience both the east and west coast of Scotland. Compare and contrast the magnificent courses on the Atlantic coastline including Royal Troon, Turnberry, Prestwick and Western Gailes with the North Sea classics such as Carnoustie, St Andrews, Kingsbarns, North Berwick and Muirfield.

10-Day Travel Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive at Edinburgh Airport

Met by your Concierge Tour Driver who will be with you for your entire trip. Transfer to your hotel in St Andrews. Rest of the day at leisure allowing you to explore the town of St Andrews.

Day 2: Play Carnoustie

Who can forget Jean Van De Veld’s infamous collapse at the 1999 Open Championship? This classic links course was designed by Old Tom Morris and Allan Robertson in 1842 and includes Ben Hogan, Gary Player and Tom Watson amongst its illustrious list of Open champions. The finishing 3 holes are brutal but the course is simply a masterpiece.

Day 3: Play Kingsbarns

A truly stunning masterpiece is considered by many to be best course in Scotland. Sea views from every hole and signature holes reminiscent of Pebble Beach. This is a must! Why not include the Kingsbarns Whiskey Distillery Tour which is next door?

Day 4: St Andrews Old Course

The highlight for any golfer. Walk in the footsteps of legends and make your own lifelong memories. Embrace the nerves on the 1st tee and knock one down the middle. 4 hours later you’ll be walking up 17 and 18 and the hairs will be standing up on the back of your neck as you emulate the golfing Gods.

Day 5: Play Dunbarnie

The course opened in 2020 to huge acclaim. There is a real possibility that the Scottish Open may be held in the coming years and it would be a worthy host. Every hole feels separate and individual. This is a seriously great golf course.

Day 6: Travel to Troon (2hr 15min) Play Western Gailes

This relatively unknown course is as ‘pure links’ as it gets. Opened in 1897 it has hosted many notable events including The Curtis Cup and The British Seniors Open. Like many a typical links course it lies between the railway line and the sea. Western Gailes guarantees the full links experience whatever the weather. After golf check into The Marine Hotel, Troon, which sits on the 18th fairway of Royal Troon.

Day 7: Play Turnberry

Arguably the most dramatic and picturesque course in Scotland. Rich in history with the ‘Dual in the Sun’ between Nicklaus and Watson in 1977 the most memorable of them all. The course is always in pristine condition and offers a true test of golf.

Day 8: Play Royal Troon

Host to the Open Championship in 2024 won by Xander Schauffele. Past champions include Tom Watson, Mark Calcavecchia and Justin Leonard. A classic links which starts alongside the Atlantic Ocean. Brave golf is rewarded here but be wary of the perfectly placed bunkers. Greg Normans valiant battle in 1989 ended in a bunker on his 72nd hole.

Day 9: Play Prestwick

The venue for the first 12 Open Championships, Prestwick is really quite unique. Originally a 12-hole course, it was extended to 18 holes in 1882. The first hole, like so many classic links courses, runs alongside the railway line. The fairway tapers at 200 yards so leave the driver in the bag!

Your Concierge Tour Driver will transfer you back to Edinburgh Airport for your flight home. Allowing you time to discuss your next golf trip!
